Lately I have been spinning the newest Queens of the Stone Age album and Jack White's newest release. Both of them have a very musically rounded sound. Some slow stuff, some heavier stuff and Jack's album has a bit of a country feel to it with a few violin solos.

@Brian, I like the second one there :) I have been playing these classical songs while working on the mitre planes.

@Jon, I better check that out...I haven't heard much of Jack White's music since the end of the white stripes.

    Also I just discovered opeth...

I'd really love to like the new stuff from Opeth (couple of their latest albums), but my inner angst teenager is too narrow-minded and won't let me like them.
Just because they went from death metal to hippie rock (Nothing bad about hippie rock though) and seems like we don't allow that...
Same with Anathema - I like the early stuff, but I just get nothing from the atmospheric rock they play nowadays... but then Katatonia is totally different animal - both early death metal and the later depressive/doomy metal/rock are fine.

I really would like to know what the rule here is...

Meh, I don't mind the hippie rock stuff lol - never much been a fan of death metal. Opeth's death scream gets on my nerves in some of their songs, but I like the songs with mostly clean lyrics.

    Also, here's some Jackson Browne.
