I stipped a Carvin DC 127 down to bare wood and in the process disfigured the already worn plastic headstock plate. Anyone know how Carvin applies the plastic and how to remove the plate. Is it similar to the heat activated glue used by Gibson?

I would try an iron on low and see what happens. And, a sharp heated spatula.
