I am working on an 1984 Ibanez Roadmaster ii RB760 bass guitar. This has the single neck pickups and then the two side by side rear pickups. I was trying to find the source of buzz on the bass pickups when they literally fell apart. Both black and red wires coming from the pickup just fell out of the pickup and I have no idea how reinstall them . Can anyone give me some guidance on what to do?

    Thanks

    Gary

You will either need to completely rewind the pickup or replace it.

I agree that that pickup is wasted..
Had a look & couldn't find a direct replacement but there's got to be something available to put in it's place.. EMG, Bartolini etc.
Found a picture of what it once looked like..

I need to work on making a pickup winder from a drill & a fishing reel..

I am sorry to be so ignorant, but what or where do the wires connect to when you are building a pickup?

    Thanks

The ends of the really fine wire that looks to be torn in your pic.

Now it makes sense to me. Wow what a lot of finely crafted pieces with such delicate connections. Thank you for enlightening me.

The original pickup can be re-wound to spec. If you have no one in your area who does these things I could help.

Wow Brian, that would be totally cool. I would have to get the owners ok but I think he would go for it. How much would the cost be to do the pair of them?

    Thanks,

    Gary

    Hi Brian,

Received the pickups back today. Excellent work. Looked like it came from the factory. Installed and the bass works perfectly. I am sure I will have a very happy bass player when i Bring him his bass tomorrow. Thank you for all you help and an excellent job on restoring the pickups.
