I'm am not a builder but I love the process and of course the beautiful outcome of the work you all do. Since there's a similar thread on MLP there should be one here as well... -John
I knew this thread had to happen TKOjams ... I'm familiar with your work. Really impressive. You're a fan of trans amber, ha? Aaron! This truly is a piece of art! So many neat details to look at and beautiful woods! Like the contour on the back of the lower horn!
Here are some over the years. The last few go back to 2003-2004 or so. Stuff with my headstock designs (should be obvious) are 2010 to current.
And one that had to die.... It's really too bad, as it was a neat idea and a cool tribute to Michael Schenker, but once I strung it up, I noticed that the angle of the wings just didn't look good. I didn't have a proper template or blueprint, and sometimes you just don't see that something's wrong until it's too late. Shoulda strung it up before I painted it, but whatever. The guitar was never going to look right, and I had no desire to complete the assembly, so it sat. Mocking me. Until one day.... one of "those" kinda days happened, I grabbed it by the neck, went in the garage and took it to smashytown. Before: (I really liked the black and white binding. That was fun.) After: sully
That thing is FINISHED ALL RIGHT! haha. You've more than out did yourself on the others man. Great work!
That is F**kin amazing, and I say this sincerely, my hat is off to you... its been 30 years since I've seen someone destroy their own work because they put a mountain of time into it and it turned out genetically wrong... that was when I smashed the schitt out of an armchair I was doing for a customer... in the end it's better that way and it just keeps getting better, Bravo Sully
This is what I was hoping for when I found this site. Good honest rock guitars built by people with style! Awesome stuff!
Thanks for the kind words, but to be fair, I didn't smash it because it was inferior and it insulted my perfectionist sensibilities; It was one of those days (xmas time, the inlaws were staying with us, and I was trying to get a guitar completed and to my customer), and I was super stressed out. Something happened that day and it pushed me over the edge. So instead of screaming at the top of my lungs, I grabbed the guitar and did what I did. It seems oddly fitting that a Michael Schenker themed guitar would get smashed, since he did the exact thing to his favorite V on an album cover. Not to mention.....it was just sitting there....giving me the stink eye. It had to go.
I'm just glad that I'm not the only one who, after hours of relentless labor in the shop, feels like inanimate objects are staring at me, and giving me shit... and judging. ALWAYS JUDGING WHEN I TURN MY BACK
