I recently bought a guitar that has what I believe to be a standard plastic nut, not bone or graphite. The high E slot is a little chipped out [IMG]
Do I have to replace the nut, or is there something I can fill in and then re-cut the groove? Thanks.

Since you have a zero fret, the nut is not critical. Looks like a cheapo plastic unit, easily available new at many stores. Also - easily repairable, as long as you don't mind the repair being visible. Look for a Dan Erlewine / StewMac video called "The super glue trick".....

You can replace it for 10 bucks or less---and I don't care what anyone tells you---Super Glue and guitars don't mix.

At this point, there is ample evidence over the last 30 years that proves the above statement to be complete bunk.

Super glue, or CA glue is the best thing that has happened to guitar repair in the last 30 years. That's right I said it!
