Looking for something similar, hopefully one that isn't branded.

Not readily available. I have had to make my own for quite some time.

Daaaaaaang, those are hella pricey! Get you some brass stock and make one, TKO. I like making my own ferrule plates. I've used steel on the last couple, but I've been meaning to find some brass. Steel takes a bit more to machine, and that turns into HEAT. Burnin' digits.

I make mine from aluminum. Easier to cut the main profile out, but sucks to grind. But extremely cheap and overall very easy.

I thought the schaller hannes bridge was fairly expensive, but considering it comes with one of these it now seems quite good value!

Not that i can think of, but it is very straight forward.
I make mine rectangular, so it is easier to machine.

What kind of bridge are you using?
If you are using a string through bridge, you can double stick tape it to a piece of MDF and make a template for the holes.
I stick the bridge itself to my aluminum stock and use the bridge as a template so the holes match exactly. Then i just countersink the holes to the size of the ball ends on the strings.

I'm using a fender Tele bridge. How is the block held into the body ( should one remove the strings) or is it free floating?

    Thanks man!! Great thread.

Ya never know just how simple something can be to build until you actually see being done.
Now, let's see if it can scare up some aluminum key stock locally.:yesway:

I just superglue mine in. The string tension alone is enough to keep it in, but a little glue to hold it when there are no strings is enough.

    That sentence is gold.
I've been worrying and procrastinating numerous times over something really simple, just because before doing it I thought the difficulty would be something between rocket science and brain surgery. :D

Now I always think what Nike's marketing would say in the situation. :naughty:

    Went with this, Gaboon Ebony.
Picked it up online with the template for cheaper than I could make it, so it was a no brainer
