Setting out to build a 59 replica, ordered some templates off ebay, the template for the control cavity does not match the Gibson plate I ordered. Were the earlier Les Paul plates different or is my template screwy?
They must have changed it. I routed my build according to the templates I got for the 59 ( Guitar Building Templates - Guitar Building Templates ) and when I went to put the cover I bought for it on (genuine Gibson parts) it didnt fit. I had to remove a little more wood around the top edge of the cavity to make it fit. In retrospect, I should have just sanded off some of the cover. For some reason my mind didnt present me with that option at the time. Either way, it came out OK
