Just noticed today that we don't have a workshop music thread here....thought I'd better start one off. :hmm:

    Good thread idear!

I saw that tour at Mississippi Nights in St Louis. I was right in front of Petrucci the entire show. Mind blowing.

I just put my Google Music on "I'm feeling lucky," usually it's spot on... or I listen to podcasts, favorites being Joe Rogan Experience, Smartest Man In the World (Greg Proops), Startalk (Neil DeGrasse Tyson), Getting Doug with High, Doug Loves Movies, and sometimes the Doug Stanhope podcast.

I listen to a lot of different stuff in the shop; Edith Piaf and NWA are often heard.

Did you really just say NWA? As in the classic 80's/90's rap group?

    If so...!

For me it depends on the mood. The reason I went out there in the first place. To get away I will listen to Seasick Steve, Clapton, Metallica, etc..etc. If I am out there because there is no other place I would rather be at that time, it is usually something in the realm of hip hop/R&B.

BEHEMOTH!!! As I grow older, I'm losing my taste for death metal, but the Polish bands always get me going. Particularly Behemoth and Vader.

Of course! NWA was just so raw and fantastic.

I'm the opposite, I've gravitated more towards death metal as I've grown older  Hated it when I was young.

Yeah, me too. Cannibal Corpse and Behemoth (and about 10 other bands, including Watain) played a show here a couple of summers ago. It was brilliant.

The night my shop flooded (Halloween) I was seeing Watain at an outdoor show, tons of rain, show was killer but got drenched. They had to cut their set short because one of the amps got wet and blew out.

Never heard this Watain before. Not bad!

Another death metal band I love(if you consider them death metal) is Amon Amarth. I NEVER get tired of them. I've had a burned CD with both Twilight of the Thunder God and Surtur Rising on it in my car for over a year. I never take it out of the changer.

I'm a huge power metal fan overall. Maiden, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Edguy, Avantasia. Any band with shredders and a golden throat singer is good in my book.

Amon Amarth... saw them with Carcass in Helsinki last December.
Death metal, viking metal... I hate when they make a subgenre for every band. ;)

Nice. There is what looks like will be a good power metal concert in OKC in May...Iced Earth, Sabaton, ReVamp, and Empire Down (local band).

I agree, poro78. The stratification ad nauseam of metal really annoys the crap out of me. I once heard a guy seriously describe his band as "brutal technical melodic death metal". I laughed, and he got mad.

    I killed a thread again! :)

Today's tiny workshop session was powered by Manowar.

And to ease the pain of losing to Sweden in Olympic ice hockey tournaments semifinal I'll go to see some ugly people and listen to noise later today...
