Hi there! So, I have a Gibson SG 70's Tribute in for a new bone nut. I have the bone nut blanks, but I want to know about the preparation of such, before going any further. I've seen a luthier on YouTube cleaning bone nut blanks with a standard window cleaner, and that should work fine. Could I do that? Cheers!
You do want to make sure they are degreased, but I've never had much trouble after wiping them off with lacquer thinner.
Thanks, Chris! I appreciate it I saw a few people use window cleaner, to degrease the bone, and it seems to work! Now I'll have to get going with shaping the nut ;-) Cheers!
NOTE: If your nut blank has been bleached (is already pure white) then you don't need to "degrease" it.. the bleaching process did it for you. you can tell because they are slightly "chalky feeling" you only need to degrease unbleached bone. or horn, ivory.. etc etc.
