i was given a ukulele with a cracked top under the bridge. The previous owner removed the bridge, and did a really shitty "repair". Basically he just covered the crack with some kind of glue. Pics will come when I get home. Anyone have experience with something like this?

Hopefully you can remove the "some kind of glue". It was (is) a popular technique to rub glue into a crack, not so much anymore. See if it's water soluble, if so heat and warm water until it's all scrubbed out and free to move again. If its some "other kind" of glue you may have to get creative...pics?
