Ok so I figured i'd just make my own global thread. Figured it'd just be better. i'll update the burl maple thread until its over then move everything into here.

So today i got some work done. I fretted both necks and shaped the headstocks. These are lookin goods. With some mineral spirits they look fantastic.

Burl maple: 20in radius Pau ferro
Roasted Maple: 16in radius Dark black and purple indian rosewood

nah its just skeet skeet skeet

lol its titebond original. i put a drop at the ends and a bit in the center to fill gaps. before i fret i also scuff up the sides of the fretboard so the fingerboard dust can clog the ends so when the glue is placed and the fret pushes outward some of the dust blends with the glue and bam, less work after you trim when you gotta plug up the fret ends.

I only had to touch up one or two. titebond original is pretty thin when dried compared to titebond 3. its more brittle as well. im glad i made the switch, no more creep problems. Thanks to Jay Jillard for that advice!

I really like the figured walnut top! Also, your builds are very inspiring! What kind of oil did you use for the finish? I would like to use the same kind of finish on my build :) Keep up the great work! :dude:

Thanks Knightro! i also have to delete the &feature nonsense at the end.

as for the finish that i used on this one. I used watco Teak oil. I posted a finishing schedule on my blog under finishing tips and tricks. i also used TreWax hard wax after it all dried

Thanks :)! A special reason for it being watco :) ? Does'nt seem like they sell it here in Denmark. I guess i'll just use another teak oil :hmm:

no special reason really, its just readily available here. i say test out whatever you have available near you. we here in california have pretty bad VOC laws which prevent us from getting the really really good oil finishes

so i passed my most recent board exam and am super stoked. Now i gotta scramble to get all my paperwork in order and to get my med school in india to move their ass to finish my PTAL california letter so i can apply to residencies here.

this also leaves less time for the shop. but i did manage to get some more work done. I also designed and ordered new humbucker templates and control cavity templates because the ones i was working with before were just not working out well. i went to polulu and went with 9.5mm clear acrylic so i can see what the hell im doing.

I busted out the dremel drill press stand and realized that it worked real well with smaller drill bits as well as the standard 4 dremel bits. I hand drilled the back ferrules and forstnered the volume pot countersink. I also shaped the heel end of the fretboard to better suit the flow of the bodies. did somethign new with the roasted maple fingerboard end. I actually use my calipers to draw a radius curve at the bottom and shaved away until it was equal. I dig the result. These should be finishing up in the next two weeks once i get those templates. In the meantime i'll be carving the necks.

i might scoop out just a bit more in the upper horns of the roasted maple body. i chambered it near there so it'll only be a touch more, just until the body wood shows through slightly.
